Heroes

Return to Index

Here are two of Pig Meat's heroes exposed. for you. Each have done something not for their own gain but because they knew it was right. The information on these two was gained through the manipulative media, so all the facts may be distorted and shortened but the crux of it is still there.

Stephen Voigt: Stephen was on a Midland bound train on Sunday 1st October when he noticed a group of aboriginal youths hassling another passenger for cigarettes. When they couldn't get any off him they turned on Stephen who said he wouldn't give them any cigarettes on principle for the way they treated the other passenger. He refused to fight but pushed the youth away from him which seemed to provoke violence. Stephen ended up suffering a broken nose, a black eye, body bruising and a knife wound to the neck. When he spoke to the media he said the incident happened because of a lack of compassion towards Aboriginal youth. He also said his injuries were nothing compared with the problems faced by young Aborigines. Train carriages were ideal theatres for such people to show their frustrations. Despite all this man went through he still came out in the end with something good to say and we at Pig Meat totally agree with and respect what you have said. You Mr Voigt are a HERO!

Robert Burrowes: Robert a conscientious objector decided he would show his feelings against military violence by tax protest. Between 1983 and 1988 he refused to pay 10% of his income tax, arguing 'that this percentage of the Australian Government's Budget was allocated each year to military spending. In 1986 he offered to pay his military tax with 94 shovels; in 1987 he offered 104 trees; and in 1988 and 1989 he offered trailer loads of soil. When they refused his offers he donated the money to causes such as Amnesty International and Friends of the Earth. He was declared bankrupt in November 1990 after refusing to pay back taxes, previous court costs and interest totaling nearly $8 000 because they would have been used to finance military spending. Robert was later ordered to provide a financial statement but refused to do so out of fear his assets could be used to finance warfare. Mr Burrowes you are a God damn HERO!

These two men (sorry no women at the moment) have the guts to do what they did above the call of human nature & it goes to show they have a higher pride in fellow man than fellow man has in them. If you have a hero you want the people to know about then post me their details C/O PIG MEAT address at front of Zine.
